About Knighthawk Squadron

Welcome to the US Naval Sea Cadets, Knighthawk Squadron, in Vienna, OH. The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps (USNSCC) is the only federally-sponsored nationwide youth association within the Department of Defense. Knighthawk Division's heritage stems from its association with the Navy Operational Support Center at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station.

The Cadet Corps program in Vienna, OH includes two separate units:

The Naval Sea Cadet Corps (NSCC) and the Navy League Cadet Corps (NLCC). The NSCC is for young people between the ages of 13 through 18, while the NLCC is available for young people from 11 through 14. The NSCC is a federally chartered 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization, sponsored through the Navy League of the United States, and is supported by the Department of the Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard. Official support of the USNSCC by the Navy is promulgated in OPNAVINST 5760.5D. Commander, Naval Recruiting Command is responsible for coordinating the U.S. Navy's support of the NSCC. The Naval Sea Cadet Corps has also been designated by the United States Coast Guard as their primary youth program; official support of the USNSCC is outlined in the U.S. Coast Guard Public Affairs Manual.

Knighthawk Squadron currently has openings for the academic year in both Cadet units for young people who have ambition, self-discipline, and a strong academic background. In addition to learning about the four sea services and the long maritime tradition of the United States, Knighthawk Squadron training provides Cadets with a solid foundation for building academic and social skills, teamwork, and critical thinking. Knighthawk Squadron offers preliminary training for the U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Merchant Marine, and provides direct entrance assistance to all the service academies and for Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) candidates. Our drills are held usually on the first weekend of the month.

Our unit has retired Military personnel, Veterans, and dedicated Civilian volunteers to administer the program.

The goals of our unit include:

    * Develop an appreciation for Naval History, traditions and customs and their role in national defense.

    * Develop a sense of pride in our nation, positive qualities of patriotism, courage and self-reliance, confidence and strong moral character and good citizenship traits.
    * Develop an interest and skill in seamanship and seagoing and aviation subjects.
    * Increase the advancement potential of cadets who may later elect to serve in the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard or Merchant Marines.
